Are automatic feeders safe to leave a dog with?
Yes, for meals while you are out for the day, but they are not a substitute for daily care. Choose a model with a battery backup and a jam alert so a power cut or clog does not cause a missed meal, and test it for a few days before relying on it.
Automatic (programmed) vs. gravity feeder — which do I need?
Gravity feeders keep the bowl full for free-feeders and grazers but offer no portion control, which is bad for dogs that overeat. Programmed feeders dispense set portions at set times — what you want for weight management or a scheduled feeding routine.
Can automatic feeders handle wet food?
Most standard feeders are for dry kibble only. For wet or raw food you need a specific chilled or ice-pack feeder with sealed compartments — a regular timed dry feeder will clog and let wet food spoil. Tray-style feeders can hold one same-day wet meal.
Will an automatic feeder work for a large dog?
